Optimism over future of Egerton Park

A PLAN to rejeuvenate Egerton Park is still going ahead with £1m of funding, in spite of the project losing out on Lottery cash.

Councillors at Rother's full council meeting rubber-stamped the 1m spend on the park from the Capital Programme on Monday night.

Earlier this year, Heritage Lottery's Parks for People panel rejected Egerton Park's bid for 4m to upgrade the facility for the benefit of the community.

Instead, a scaled-down plan has been put in place, which includes a kiosk/boathouse for refreshments, a 'destination play zone' for children and young teenagers, and an upgrade of the boating lake.

Cllr Deirdre Williams said, "We are all extremely excited over what we are going to achieve.

"It's going to make a really nice area for residents and visitors to the town and we are all looking forward to it very, very much."
