Oustanding report for Walberton village school

WALBERTON and Binsted Church of England Primary School has been handed one of West Sussex's best ever OFSTED reports.

Inspectors gave the school the top mark of outstanding in all six categories. Almost all the ratings in almost 40 sub-categories were also excellent, with just two marked good.

Headteacher Mo Shilliday said: "We are obviously absolutely delighted that OFSTED has recognised that we are an excellent school. We have a great team here, and we have high expectations for our children.

"The 'outstanding' judgement is the culmination of many years of hard work by a great many people; children and adults."

'Outstanding' school

The report stated that Walberton and Binsted always put the needs of its pupils first.

"This is an outstanding school. It provides an excellent education for pupils and prepares them very effectively for the next stage of their education.

"Achievement is outstanding and pupils in year six are on course to exceed the very challenging targets set for them in the 2009 national tests.

"As a result of this very high quality provision, pupils' enjoyment of school is outstanding and this is reflected in their above average rates of attendance and excellent attitudes to learning."

Not just academic

It went on to note that children excelled in all areas of school life, not just accademically.

"The quality of pupils' work on display, especially their artwork, is of a high standard and provides clear evidence that the school's success is not just restricted to test results.

"Progress in children's personal, social and emotional development is outstanding and parents appreciate the high level of care and support their children receive."

Diana Levantine, chair of the school's governing body, said the report confirmed her beleif in the head and her staff.

Keep on working

"The report said that the children are happy, well-behaved and attain a very high standard of education. What more could we, or any parent, ask for?"

Miss Shilliday added: "We will take a few moments to celebrate and enjoy the feeling, but then we will just keep on working, there are still some things we want to develop further."
