'Out of control' bonfire among multiple incidents dealt with by Midhurst firefighters

Crews from Midhurst Fire Station were called to an 'out of control' bonfire at a home in Milland, a chimney fire in Tillington and assisted at the scene of a blaze involving vegetation on Hankley Common in Elstead.

The bonfire, which broke out shortly after 3pm, was in 'close proximity' to a large hedge which subsequently caught alight and 'quickly spread'.

Assisted by firefighters from Haslemere, the Midhurst crews worked to contain the fire using hose reels to 'damp down a number of hot spots' and 'ensure the fire was fully out'. Click here for advice on staying safe with a bonfire.

One of the Midhurst crews was redirected to a chimney fire in Tillington. The incident was quickly resolved using chimney equipment, the fire station said. For advice on chimney fire safety, please click here.These incidents came after a vegetation fire on Hankley Common, where 13 fire and rescue vehicles were in attendance. Two hectares of undergrowth were well-alight, according to Surrey Fire & Rescue Service.
