Oval to host first festival cycling race

YOUNG cyclists are being urged to saddle up for a new race being held as part of this year’s East Preston Festival.

Organisers have booked the Oval Race Track at Angmering for the festival’s first junior cycle race on Saturday, May 31.

The festival committee has teamed up with British Cycling to stage cycle races in five age groups: ages six/seven, under-tens, under-12s, under-14s and under-16s, with prizes for the first three boys and first three girls in each.

The first 16 entries in each age group receive a place in the race, for which the entry fee is £3.50 for age six/seven and £4.50 in all the other categories, with £1.50 going to British Cycling for insurance.

Helmets must be worn by all those taking part.

Entry forms are available from Seaview Stores and Hedgers Newsagents, both in Sea Road, East Preston, Graham Butt Estate Agents (East Preston branch) and South Down Bikes, in Storrington and Worthing.

Entry forms must be returned by Thursday and none will be accepted on the day. Racing takes place between 9am and 1pm and the event is being sponsored by Graham Butt Estate Agents, with the Oval Race Track owners allowing use of the venue for free.

Prizes have been donated by South Downs Bikes.
