Pagham's plea to Arun over winter flood risk

Pagham Parish Council has written to Arun planners urging them to consider plans to cut through a shingle spit as early as possible.

As reported, Arun’s plans to decide on a planning application on August 22 would not leave enough time to complete the work before next year, leaving vulnerable homes close to the sea at risk of a stormy winter.

In a letter to Arun’s planning department, Pagham chairman Ray Radmal said: “There is an overwhelming community support for a sustainable solution to the very serious flood and erosion situation which a significant part of the parish is facing.

“PPC is under pressure to seek consent as a matter of extreme urgency.

He said waiting until August 22 for a decision was a ‘worst case scenario’ and called for the planning application to be considered in July so the work could be done before the winter bird migration arrival.
