Art lovers offered the original paintings and limited edition prints to local health screening charity, the Mary How Trust for Cancer Prevention, in Pulborough’s Lower Street.

Mary How Trust patron Rupert Toovey, of Toovey’s Fine Art and Antique Auctioneers, came to value the pictures on Monday, November 18.

Mr Toovey commented on the wide variety of works, and the popularity of the artists who include Fanch, Terry Harrison and John Brunsdon.

A small exhibition of the original paintings and signed prints has been launched at the charity’s shop at 59 Lower Street, Pulborough.

Shop manager, Jeanne Hobbs, has created an eye-catching window display, and several pictures have already been snapped up.

The works will be on display for the next two weeks.

Mrs Hobbs said: “This is an ideal opportunity to buy a special Christmas present and help the Mary How Trust to continue giving its important health screenings.”

Roanne Moore-Loizides, marketing and fundraising manager of the Mary How Trust, added: “We are grateful to the generous donors of these wonderful pictures.

“These works of art will brighten up people’s homes while helping us to save people’s lives.”

The Mary How Trust was launched in 1988 in memory of Mary How, a young mother of two, who died from bowel cancer. Earlier detection and treatment of the disease could have saved her life.

The charity now aims to spot the early signs of cancers and other life-threatening illnesses through free health screenings.

It is independent, and receives no funding from the NHS, relying solely on donations from the men and women who come for health screenings, and from donors and fundraisers throughout the local community.
