Pair take the plunge for charity

Two madcap Bexhill College students came up with a splashing way for the frosty weather to help them raise funds for charity.

Keiron Akam, 16, and Conor Wilkinson, 17, pledged to run into the sea if 600 people joined their group on internet site Facebook.

Less than a week later, on the day before Christmas Eve, the pair were stripping off on Bexhill beach, with tin-rattlers collecting for St Michael's Hospice.

Conor said: "When we were getting undressed Kieron looked at me and said, 'I'm regretting this now'.

"Then he was running down in front of me. I thought, I'm not letting him get away."

The pair spent a couple of minutes in the water before running for land, clothes and car heating.

Kieron said: "We thought it would be funny and raise a bit for charity. It was probably the coldest I have ever been."
