Panto plays to packed houses at Bognor's Alexandra Theatre

Panto tickets are selling fast in Bognor Regis.

The Alexandra Theatre's latest seasonal offering is proving its most popular to date.

Five performances of the festive treat of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves were already sell-outs two weeks before the opening night.

Another ten shows were well on the way to being full houses. An extra six performances have also been arranged to cope with the huge demand for seats.

Such has been the enthusiasm that the 2009 panto '“ Peter Pan '“ has already been booked by the general manager of the Regis Centre, Adam Cunard.

He said: "We have been amazed by the success of Snow White.

"The pantos of the past two years have been popular but this year is even better.

"There may be a recession but people realise that our panto is good value and it's a good family production. People don't mind spending money to see that. So far, we have sold 9,500 tickets.

"We've had to take on extra staff in the box office and to answer the phones to cope with the demand."

The show will be seen by the pupils of 19 schools from around the town in an increase from the 11 schools who took their children along to last year's show.

Snow White opens in the centre's theatre on December 13 and continues until January 3 with 48 shows in all.

Some days feature three performances in the morning, afternoon and evening.

The lead roles in the magical fairytale are filled by Coronation Street's Scott Wright, who was Sam in the soap, as Prince Charming and singer Jessica Negus in the title role.

A big supporting cast of professionals, dancers and local children includes the familiar group of dwarves '“ Dozy, Sleepy, Bashful and Sneezy.

The panto repeats the partnership between the operator of the centre, Arun Arts, and established showbiz company, Spillers Pantomimes.
