Parking discs offering two hours free are a hit with Bognor motorists

On Tuesday (December 13) members of Arun District Council’s regeneration subcommittee praised the scheme, which began earlier this month.

Caroline Gosford, a senior regeneration and LSP manager, at the council said discs had been ‘flying of the shelves’ with 4,000 sold in the first week.

Cllr Roger Nash said: “The discs and the introduction of two hour free parking has clearly been a big success. I am told so far 8,000 plus have been sold, with one shop in particular selling a great number.

“It is also important to recognise the number of motorists using the two car parks has gone up considerably. By 15 per cent in the first week, and between 25 and 30 per cent after that.

“People have been very vocal about the scheme’s success, it is obviously making a big difference to the town, which is brilliant,” added Cllr Nash.

Motorists who have a disc can park freely for two hours in either Lyon Street car park or Fitzleet multi-storey.

The scheme, funded by Arun and Bognor councils, with the town council contributing on behalf of traders, will last until next December initially and will be reviewed next May.

Discs are available for £1 each from 24 outlets around the town. They are: Bognor Regis Observer/self-serve visitor information point, Unique Printing and Embroidery, Leaders, Cash Converters, Niche Cafe, Appliance Centre, Heaps of PCs, Keith Jay, Reynolds, Second Chance, London Stores, Claydens, Little Shop of Secrets, Polkadot Stripes, Picturedrome Cinema, Regis Centre, Kampos Cycles, Lock Centre, Sight and Sound, Heygates Paperback Exchange, Print-In, James Jewellers, Cornerstone Computers, and the town hall.
