PARKING FEES TO BE CHANGED AT HOSPITAL

CAR parking charges are being changed at East Sussex Hospitals.

A hospital spokesperson said the changes were 'in line with visitors' requests'.

Visitors who park for shorter periods will pay less and those who stay longer will pay slightly more. For example, visitors will now pay 1 to park for half-an-hour and 2 for two hours, rather than 1.70 for one-three hours.

Whereas the five-day, seven-day and two week tickets costs have been increased.

The new tariff is set to come into play on Friday (December 1).

David Philliskirk, director of facilities and estates said, "According to feedback from regular audits of car park users, the creation of a short stay 30 minute charge will be welcomed by most visitors and the establishment of four pay bands is deemed fairer and offers a better choice.

"The increase on the longer stay tickets ensures the Trust covers the annual cost increase of maintaining and managing our car parks for the benefit of visitors and patients.

"We are offering a better service and have got attendants on both sites who can make sure visitors find a parking space."

"We are continuing to improve the car parking service offered to visitors. For 2007, the Trust will continue to manage the parking facilities in-house on both sites to ensure a high standard of service and facilities.

"Both sites now hold the Association of Chief Police Officers Secure Parking Award.

"This ensures that the car parks meet criterion relating to lighting, CCTV coverage, surveillance, landscaping, patrolling and management systems."

Free visitor parking is available in exceptional circumstances and visitors on low income can reclaim their travel expenses.
