Parking tickets on the increase in Battle

The number of parking tickets issued to motorists in Battle has risen since the departure of the town's traffic warden last year.

Between April and August 2009, 77 tickets were dished out to drivers who had illegally parked their cars in the town centre.

When the traffic warden retired around a year ago, Police Community Support Officers took over his role.

Between April and August 2010, PCSOs issued 99 tickets.

But despite the increase, some motorists are still deliberately flouting the law, leaving their vehicles illegally parked whilst they go shopping.

PCSO Sam Kemp said: "A lot of people still park in the loading bay and the lorry pulls up alongside and blocks the whole High Street."
