FAMILY Support Work (FSW) is urging residents to sign up for its annual sponsored Easter Walk and help raise much needed funds for its work with Sussex families in crisis.
The sponsored event, taking place on Easter Monday (April 9), will follow a seven mile circular route from Alfriston via Wilmington, starting at 9.30am outside Alfriston Memorial Hall.
It is open to all ages and ‘walks of life’ – from children to adults and dogs.
FSW director Maggie Simons said: “Now in its 24th year our annual Easter Walk has already raised over £120,000 to help Sussex families facing difficult times to rebuild their lives and move on. Last year over 100 people joined the walk and this year we would like even more people to take part and help us raise vital funds for Sussex families in need.
“The money raised from the Easter Walk goes towards providing local families with practical advice and emotional support, as well as short breaks in the welcoming environment of our Knowles Tooth Children’s Centre in Hurstpierpoint.”
Janet Barker, from Peacehaven, who will be taking part with her springer spaniel Ben, said: “I found Ben whilst out walking in the Scottish Highlands. It was clear he had been mistreated and was in need of a decent home, and with a lot of love and looking after he has settled in well to family life. He loves haring around on the South Downs so I thought what better way to mark his one-year anniversary with us than by joining the Easter Walk, and helping to raise money for Family Support Work at the same time.”
