Party on in Royal fashion

Neighbours of Victoria Hall got together to hold a coffee morning for the street party to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

More than £400 was raised by selling cakes, raffle tickets, and entrance tickets for the event.

Organiser Michael Ensor said: “Special mention goes to to two teenagers, Nancy and Courtney, who by themselves baked angel cakes and raised more than £90 towards the street party fund.

“The plans for the street party are coming together, with Victoria Hall being the central point. On Friday April 29 there will be live BBC One HD screened on the St John’s Church cinema screen in the morning, followed by a community picnic in Victoria Hall and out on Victoria Road.

“The afternoon street party will include a folk band, Morris dancing, Charlie the Clown, facepainting for the children, egg and spoon walking race, adult tug-of-war (bring your own gloves), fancy dress competition for both children and adults, best decorated house competition, bouncy castle, barbecue, and more.

“This is becoming a real neighbourhood event with people from the Windsor Road and Reginald Road area coming together for a fun day.

“There is already a real sense of excitement about the event. Tickets for the live TV and events in Victoria Hall are limited, but the street party is open to all.

“Rother has granted a Road Closure Order so that we can have the party on the street.

“This is the only Road Closure Order in Bexhill for the Royal Wedding. We will be selling programmes and inviting donations to cover the costs, and any surplus will be given to a charity.

“We all hope that it will be a fabulous day for the wedding in London for the happy couple, but also for our own street party so that it will be a lasting memory for all the family to remember this special day.”
