BARELY a blade of grass could be seen as hundreds of people flocked to the Party on the Green, basking in bright sunshine on the first Sunday of East Preston Festival.

The village’s Royal British Legion Club again organised the successful blend of live music, a keenly-contested tug of war competition, children’s activities, real ale marquee, boules, birds of prey, cream teas and a barbecue.

The Clockhouse bar team pulled its weight to win the tug of war, against the Sea View Hotel, the Tudor Tavern and the legion club, while the wome’s event, held for the first time, was won by the Sea View.

Among the many spectators was Chris Munns, from Eastbourne, who is being sponsored to raise funds for the charity Action for ME by attending 52 different sports events in a year – and East Preston’s was the only tug of war he could find.

In the boules doubles competition, 10 teams competed for The Royal British Legion Club Shield, with the final between Blodens and The Booty Bombers. Father and son, Phil and William Bolden beat father and daughter, Chris and Jayne Booty.
