Party to celebrate flood anniversary

LEWES people who were flooded in October, and those who gave their time and energy to help them, are invited to a flood anniversary party at Malling Community Centre on October 12 at 7pm.

It will be is an opportunity for those who were flooded and those who helped them to get together again in happier circumstances.

The party is being organised by Molly Mockford, whose home in Orchard Road was badly flooded in the deluge.

It will include musical entertainment from the Kondoms and from a local accordion band playing dance music. There will be a buffet supper.

There is no entry fee as volunteers are providing most of the facilities at cost or below, and there will be a raffle to help to cover the remaining expenses.

However, it is essential that Molly has a good idea of the number of people who will attend, so that there is enough food available and to ensure that fire regulations are not infringed.

Those who would like to attend are therefore asked to contact Molly Mockford, either by telephone (with answerphone) on Lewes 474249, by e-mail at [email protected] or by post at 9 Orchard Road, Lewes BN7 2HB, and let her know their names.

Said Molly: I particularly hope that those who helped out in the disaster will not be too modest to come forward.

Of course, individual flood sufferers should urge their particular helpers to attend, but there are many (such as those who delivered the essential information sheets, several times a day at first) whose names are not widely known, and I hope they will read this article and make contact with me.

It is hoped to leaflet all homes which were flooded, publicising the party, but there is no way of contacting helpers individually.

Any donations to the raffle or towards the expense of running the evening would be gratefully accepted.

If the takings exceed expenses, the balance will be donated to the Lewes Flood Appeal.
