Past pupils remembered at Shoreham College service

The annual Remembrance service was held on Friday in the quadrangle, where the college’s own plaques are sited.

It was a moving service attended by 300 people, including pupils from year seven upwards, staff and more than 40 parents and grandparents.

Members of the school’s Combined Cadet Force played a leading role in the ceremonies, including a wreath laid by Joseph Pearson on their behalf.

Wreaths were also laid by acting headmaster George Harrison for the college and president Edward Gray for the Old Shorehamers’ Association.

Mr Harrison said: “I was extremely proud of the way all the pupils showed the appropriate respect, and must make particular mention of our readers and guard of honour, who all performed their roles beautifully.

“Thank you also to all the parents who came and supported this important occasion.”

As part of the college’s personal act of remembrance, the names of all the former pupils who gave their lives in defence of their country were read aloud. Head boy William Jefferies read the World War One names and head girl Georgina Liley read the World War Two names.

The reading was given by year-11 student Ella Scammell and The Last Post was played by year-nine student Isabel Manson.
