Patients to benefit from memory of beloved sister

Thousands will benefit from the memory of a patient at a Bognor Regis surgery.

A new phlebotomy room has been created at Maywood Healthcare Centre with money raised to remember Toni Britton.

The room has a special blood-taking chair to enable its some 10,000 patients to feel at ease during the sometimes nerve-wracking procedure.

It has been provided by the more than 1,400 raised by Toni's sister, Mandi Britton and her partner, Michael Denton.

They took on Mont Blanc last summer. Michael conquered the 4,810m high summit but altitude sickness forced Mandi to halt her attempt.

Both were present at the centre, along with Toni's parents, to open the new room.

Toni's dad, Mick Britton, 64, of Sefter Road, Rose Green, said: "It's fantastic to have a room named after our daughter. Any father would be proud of that.

"Toni was a fantastic fun person with a terrific sense of humour and was full of life. She lived it to the full.

"I'm proud of Mandi's efforts as well. She would have climbed through her blisters to get to the top."

Mandi, 41, of Fairlands, North Bersted, said: "I am overwhelmed by the new room. My sister had to have a lot of blood tests during her life and this is really appropriate."

Maywood Patient Group chairman Peter Coles said the room was created from a former store cupboard. The group of doctors' and patients' representatives considered it was the best use of the money raised in memory of Toni.
