It was a significant day for everyone at the home, especially as many residents have lived throughout the Queen’s entire reign and remember her coronation vividly.

In the run up to the event the chefs had put on a special British menu including the old favourites of sausage and mash and fish and chips along with steak and kidney pudding and spotted dick. Liz Higson, Manager at Westlake House said: “We all had a great time celebrating the Queen’s birthday, the home was decorated by our activities team in union jacks and red white and blue balloons.

“We also sent her a birthday card signed by the residents together with a photograph of a cake that was made by them in her honour.. One of our residents celebrated her 90th birthday on the 20th April as well so she was able to tell us exactly what life has been like throughout the queens years.”
