Pavilion party plans picking up speed

SUPPORT has flooded in for the De La Warr Pavilion's 75th anniversary campaign to recreate an historic moment in the building's history.

Since the story ran in the Observer two weeks ago, Pavilion staff have been bombarded with emails and telephone calls from local residents keen to get involved.

A dedicated email address has been set up to help people register their interest in coming along this August 30, on Bank Holiday Monday, to recreate a picture taken in 1935.

And more details were released this week about the day's entertainment.

Eastbourne-based freerunning team the Urban Shadows will replace the Daily Mirror 8 dancing troupe as centre-stage attraction on the ground floor terrace.

And well-known musical wizard Mike Hatchard has agreed to lead the scratch orchestra on the day. All those who turn up have the chance to join a spontaneous choir and orchestra as it warms the crowd up for a huge street party.

The day will be captured on film by top London photographer Sheila Burnette, who reportedly fell in love with the building after visiting the Anthony Gormley exhibition on the rooftop.

Her 25 years shooting top actors, theatres and civic events will result in a final shot made into a postcard, and given to all those who join in on the day.

"It's going extremely well so far, the response has been excellent," said Sally Ann Lycett, communications officer at the Pavilion.

"But we still need more people to register their support. This is something we want the whole town to share in, so please do get in touch."
