Pavilion tenders being studied

TENDERS for the refurbishment of the De La Warr Pavilion are still being studied.

Potential contractors were invited to re-submit bids to carry out the revised programme of work after the first round of tenders was found to be way over estimate.

Paperwork for the complex job was due to be opened on Wednesday last week. Rother leader Cllr Graham Gubby said yesterday: "Tenders are currently being evaluated."

The De La Warr Pavilion was formally closed for refurbishment on Sunday, December 14.

At a closing-down party, Pavilion Trust chairman Dr Richard Sykes told the Observer he was confident that contractors would be starting work in January.

The world-famous Grade One Listed building is due to re-open in the Spring of 2005.
