Payback time for Worthing pimp

A PIMP from Worthing has been ordered to pay back almost £200,000 he earned from prostitution.

Brothel-keeper Jeffrey Jones, 57, from Quendale Court, Ethelred Road, was jailed for three years last May at Lewes Crown Court for living off prostitution and controlling prostitution between 2002 and 2005.

Police had discovered a brothel being run from Jones' flat after they attended a domestic incident.

Protracted investigations found Jones transferred more than 180,000 through his bank account during a three year period.

After his arrest, and while on bail, Jones transferred his operation to another address, before he was charged and more than 200,000 in assets frozen.

At a confiscation hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Monday, Judge Anthony Scott-Gall ordered the sum of 188,693.58 be confiscated from Jones, being identified as the proceeds of crime. He was also ordered to pay 11,000 towards prosecution costs.

Jones was given six months to pay the confiscation order or face a further prison sentence of two years.

The assets available include two flats in Worthing, which will now be sold, as well as cash and jewellery seized at the time of his arrest in May, 2005.

Detective Inspector Simon Harsley said: "The Economic Crime Unit of Sussex Police will continue to pursue criminals in order to take the profit out of crime and remove negative role models from society."
