PC legs it after a lamb

A ROGUE lamb caused havoc on the A27 and had to be chased down the road by a police officer.

The lamb even managed to outrun the PC, who had to flag down a motorist to help him catch the errant animal.

Police had received reports of a sheep and a number of lambs wandering among the traffic between the Kingston and Southerham roundabouts.

They were soon able to grab the sheep and one lamb, but two of the lambs were still on the loose.

PC Tom Thorpe said: 'The lamb was running loose in the carriageway causing a great deal of danger to the passing traffic. I chased the lamb on foot while police cars followed and used their lights to slow the traffic down.

'While running after the sheep I discovered that lambs are a lot faster than they look and it soon began to outrun me!

'I flagged down a passing motorist who gave me a lift in order to catch the lamb up.

'I again chased it on foot. However, I again found it to be too fast for me as it weaved over both carriageways of the A27.

'I saw the lamb trying to struggle through a fence to the side of the road.

'With assistance from a member of the public we caught the lamb and subsequently returned it safely to the farm where he came from.

'Happily, the other missing lamb was caught by another unit later that day.'
