Peacehaven Horticultural Society Annual Summer Show proves a big hit

THE PEACEHAVEN Horticultural Society Annual Summer Show was held on Saturday August 13 at the Meridian Centre in Peacehaven.

Trophies were presented by the chair of Lewes District Council and former chair of Peacehaven Horticultural Society cllr Eileen Russell.

Show spokesperson Margaret Wooll said: “The show was well supported by the club members and we also welcomed many entries from non members, as this is an open event.

“Entries for the preserves and baking were up on last year and even the dry spring did not deter the vegetable growers for entering all the sections.”

The major prize winners were: most prize money in horticultural classes, most points in whole show, most points in horticultural classes, Wilf Ashdown; best exhibit in horticultural classes, Cliff Wilson; most points in cut flowers, Steve Woodcock; most points in pot plants, Bill Barton and most points in vegetables, Margaret Wooll.

Other prize winners were Rikki Davies, Marilyn Nolan, Margaret Glocking, Mark Shanahan, Dave Standing, Stella Newman, Jill Fry, Alan Mitchell and Carole Belton.

Ben Allen won most points in the children’s sections and Ella Jackson won the Millennium Cup for the most effort by a child.

The society meets on the third Monday of the month in the Anzac Room in the Meridian Centre at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

New members are always welcome.
