Peacehaven man dies in crash

A PEACEHAVEN father-of-three was killed in a car crash on a notorious stretch of road.

David Winder, 59, of John s Close, Peacehaven, died when his car collided with another on the A259 between Friston and Exceat. His passenger, a 52 year-old-man received serious injuries.

The driver of the other car a 22-year-old man from Eastbourne was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital with leg, head and chest injuries. Neither have been named.

Mr Winder, a scaffolding manager and former Peacehaven Golf Club member, leaves a wife Linda, two sons, Gary and James and a daughter, Joanne.

Asked how his family was dealing with the tragic news Gary Winder told the Express: We are just trying to cope.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward in an attempt to establish its cause. Crash investigators are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a Vauxhall Cavalier who may have seen the crash.

The collision between the two Fiesta cars caused traffic chaos after it forced the closure of the road for four and a half hours at around 6.50am on Monday morning.

Bus time-tables were also thrown into turmoil as rush hour traffic, already slow due to road works, was diverted via Jevington.
