AN INSPIRATIONAL pupil from Peacehaven Community School has been selected to take part in the Olympic Torch relay.

Freddy Mouland, aged 12, was nominated by staff because of his courage, sporting activities and determination.

The student will be carrying the torch on July 17 in Brighton.

A school spokesperson said: “Freddy is a true inspiration to all of his peers and those in the years above him. He is a very strong role model whom other students look to for support and friendship.

“Freddy demonstrates ounces of respect in his everyday life at PCS. His respect towards peers, staff and his learning environment itself is admirable for someone of only 12 years old.”

A selection of students were nominated by staff in a meeting by the heads of departments.

They felt that Freddy best met the criteria of Olympic values.

He will be just one of the Sussex residents to carry the Olympic torch through the county on July 16 and 17.

On July 16 the day will end with an evening celebration on Hove Lawns, with up to 20,000 people expected to attend.
