SPECIAL OLYMPICS: I have received the following report from Sandra Farley - The Farley family are pleased to report that both Thomas Farley and Harry Farley have returned from the Special Olympic World Games 2015 held in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. sporting World Games Silver Medals for Judo. The whole sporting event was amazing. They first spent a few days in the host town, Calabasos, where they stayed on a ranch. They moved to the University of California, Los Angeles for the sporting week, known as its abbreviated ‘’UCLA’’. The Judo event was on site at UCLA in the Students Activity Centre. In the grounds of both UCLA and the University of Southern California were Olympic Villages, nicely named as Festivals, where there were lots of free and fun activities. The medal award ceremonies were held in these arena’s outside. The Judo competition itself was held over 4 days. Harry had 5 fights, the first being disqualified as his opponent did a disallowed ‘hold’. This had to be re-fought, which made Harry apprehensive. He lost this fight, but went on to win his next 3 fights, securing his Silver medal. Thomas, on the last day of the Judo event, fought 4 fights. He lost his first, but also went onto win the further 3 fights, securing his Silver Medal in his category. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies were held in the Los Angeles Coliseum, an amazing stadium. Michelle Obama, wife of the U.S. President, was at the Opening Ceremony. Both ceremonies were full of different acts, which included Stevie Wonder, and a variety of well-known performers and speakers, too many to mention in this short report. There was also a Family picnic, which sounded like there would be a blanket on the ground! Far from it, with tables laid out, a band performing while food served. Then a larger stage set-up in the next part of the park, where the chairs were set out as a theatre. The founders of the Special Olympic movement, the Schriver family, were present. The event became another outdoors concert, with
