RECREATION GROUND : Can I please remind people that dogs are not allowed on the Recreation Ground. The field is used for football matches and for our children to play on; neither of these activities is enhanced by the presence of dog mess. Thank you.

ROCK AND ROLL : My thanks to Jan Weston for the following report: The Sixties Rock and Roll music night held on Saturday August 16 in Peasmarsh Memorial Hall went very well indeed with over sixty people buying tickets. The local band “Something Else” were brilliant and the joint was really jumping all evening. The fish and chip van arrived on time, the portions were very generous and everyone was satisfied. We all went on dancing until about 10.45 and everyone said what a great evening it had been. Many thanks to those who helped to clear up and a big thank you to my friend Jakki Armfield for all her help - I couldn’t have done it without her. As it was so successful I’m sure we will be able to organise another one, and will give everyone plenty of notice. Profits for the evening amounted to £216 which was split between Peasmarsh Memorial Hall and St. Michael’s Hospice (I arranged to use the shop in Rye as a base for selling tickets which was very useful).

BROWNIES AND GUIDES : Brownies and Guides begin again on September 8 at the Memorial hall; Brownies in the main hall and Guides in the rear meeting room. Brownies runs from 6.30-8pm, Guides 6.30-8.15pm. Both units will welcome new members especially Guides who have a wonderful new leader in Louise and are looking forward to an exciting and adventurous year ahead. Pam will stay on as assistant with the Guides whilst Brown Owl Diane needs to find an assistant Brownie Guider as Suzanne has left to teach in China. Anyone who can give a few hours a week to become a unit helper or assistant Guider is welcome to come and meet our great group of girls or contact Diane Nunn on 07981 975377 or nosey.nunn@virgin.net

CHURCH SERVICES : A reminder that this Sunday August 31 there will be no 10 o’clock service at either of our churches. The congregation will be visiting Fr Martin’s church of St George’s Brede for the 9.30 morning service, as we are now all part of the same benefice. This is just a “one-off” visit and in September we shall resume our usual pattern of first and third Sundays at Peasmarsh and second and fourth Sundays at Beckley for the 10 o’clock service.
