Peasmarsh

Mary Hitchins, 2 The Old Hop Gardens

Good fun was had at the Peasmarsh Quiz last Saturday at the Memorial hall, the last one before Christmas. The next one will be in January, I will remind you all nearer the date - if you haven’t been to one before, make 2014 the year that you start!

Don’t forget that the lunch club will be taking place on Mondays at 1pm at the hall up until December 16 when there will be a special Christmas lunch. Details of the menus can be found on the hall website (www.peasmarshmh.org.uk) under forthcoming events. To book call 230324; bookings can be made up to the day, except for the Christmas lunch which should be booked and paid for before December 5. The group enjoying these tasty lunches is growing, and they will resume when the new term starts again after Christmas.

Not long now until the Christmas Fair at the Memorial hall - December 7. Christmas carols, mulled wine, mince pies, a grotto, stalls - get your Christmas off to a good start!

Friends of Peasmarsh Parish Church would like to thank all those who helped to make last Sunday’s “Messiah from Scratch” such a resounding success. The choir of 56, together with four outstanding local soloists and organist Richard Eldridge from Hastings gave a magnificent performance of Part 1 of the work, followed by the Hallelujah Chorus which gave enormous pleasure to all those involved and left everyone, singers and listeners young and old, with smiles on their faces. One of the comments from the choir was, “Can we do it again tomorrow ?”

Another “first” in our church last week happened on Thursday 14 when the Sussex County Association of Bellringers brought a team to ring a peal on our bells. You may have heard them ringing the changes which lasted for 2 hours and 40 minutes. This visit to Peasmarsh completed their ambition to ring a peal in every church in Sussex with an active bell tower. Perhaps this is a good moment to thank our own team of “Beckley and Peasmarsh Bellringers” who keep our bells ringing and look after them.

There will be a Family Toy Service for families from Peasmarsh and Beckley at All Saints Church, Beckley at 10am on Sunday 24. Last year the generous gifts of toys from the children in the villages went to Demelza House, and the church expects to do the same this year. There will be a service of Holy Eucharist at Peasmarsh church at 3pm.
