Peasmarsh

Mary Hitchins, 2 The Old Hop Gardens

It was short notice, but there was a very poor response to the churchyard working party appeal for last Sunday afternoon. Those half dozen who came were already stalwart supporters of the church/churchyard and the average age was something well over 70. Nevertheless a lot of work was done and visitors should see an improvement which the PCC hope to be able to maintain. Any contributions towards the “wheeled strimmer” which it is hoped will make clearing round the kerbs of the older graves easier would be gratefully received. We hope for a better turnout on September 8.

Completion and handover of the refurbished Memorial Hall should take place at the end of this month. Potential users can check the hall website: www.peasmarshmh.org.uk and if you are looking for a regular “slot” you need to act quickly. Jackie Brooks on 222654 continues as caretaker and booking clerk.

A new goalpost for the Recreation Ground has arrived and should soon be up on the field - still plenty of time for football before the schools go back!

There was a splendid turnout of speedwatch volunteers at the meeting on August 6 and Peter Lamont has offered to act as co-ordinator. When the registration for the team for Peasmarsh has been completed we can expect to see trained members of the group out on the main road, taking details of the speeding traffic, and hopefully having an effect as traffic calmers simply by their visible presence. We should be grateful to all those who have come forward to enable this project to go forward.

Services this Sunday at Peasmarsh church will be 10am - 18th Purley Scout Group Service and 3pm Holy Eucharist.
