Peasmarsh

Mary Hitchins, 2 The Old Hop Gardens

Here’s a happy coincidence ! Very shortly after the appeal for volunteers went out in the Periodical in January there was a request from Here 2 Help at Rye Hospital for some help from residents for an elderly couple who needed support. From the responses Hilary Pankhurst was able to put forward the names of two volunteers who were willing to help. It’s still not too late to let Hilary have your name (230205) if there’s something you would be willing to do. There has been an offer to help with the Recreation Ground Committee, and one to work in the churchyard. There is still an urgent need for volunteers to work with the Youth Groups, the Wednesday evening project, the Brownies and the Guides. There is also a move afoot to find volunteers to help with church cleaning on a rotating basis so that it doesn’t fall to the same two or three people every time.

For those who brought their families to the Candlemas Service on Feb 3rd and enjoyed it, the next informal “Family Service” will be on “Mothering Sunday” (March 10 ) at Beckley Church. These family services are being held in both churches – this time it will be Beckley’s turn, but Fr Bill and the Wardens very much hope that Peasmarsh families will come as well. There will be some fun activities for the children and refreshments after the service which is at 10am.

The Peasmarsh organ will soon be finished. Once the work has been completed there will be a special service with a recital and possibly a buffet supper.

Everyone can see the work going steadily ahead on the Memorial Hall. The weather has not been helpful, but the target for re-opening is still in June.

A spate of traffic accidents at the east end of the village has raised the question of what traffic calming steps should be taken there. This has been a matter of concern to the Parish Council for some years now, and will be on the agenda at next week’s council meeting. Members of the public are welcome at all parish council meetings, and have an opportunity to air their views or ask questions. There is, however, a limit to the number of people who can be comfortably accommodated in the lounge which Flackley Ash Hotel management kindly loans to the council for its meetings until the hall is fit for use again. It would be helpful if any residents planning to attend could contact either the Chairman (Jennifer Als 230324) or the Clerk (Barbara Balkham 01424 752698) by midday Monday March 4 at the latest, so that any necessary adjustments can be made.

The services this Sunday at Peasmarsh church will be Holy Eucharist at 10am and Evensong at 3pm.
