Not long now until The Oliver Curd Trust’s ‘Rocktober’ - Saturday October 6 at Rye College.

Limited tickets still available from Sarah on 01797 230329, £10 each - there will be no tickets on the door. Sounds like it will be an amazing night!

Work on the Memorial Hall is expected to start on October 22. All users have already been asked to remove their property by October 15. and if they encounter any problems can contact Jackie Brooks, Hilary Pankhurst or Jenny Als. The Committee are pleased that all regular users will be continuing to operate at the Pavilion at the Maltings, and work is going ahead to make sure they have adequate heat and external light during the coming winter. There will doubtless be quite a lot of equipment that will not have been claimed after October 15 and on Saturday October 20 the Committee will hold a GRAND CLEARANCE SALE at the hall from 1.30pm. There might be some exciting bargains. Everything must go! Casual bookings for the pavilion instead of the hall can still be made through the hall caretaker, Jackie Brooks (222654) but there will be no Saturday bookings due to football fixtures.

The long-awaited “Youth in Motion” project for young people in the village which we heard about at the Annual Parish Assembly earlier in the summer will start on Wednesday October 10 at the pavilion, from 7.30 – 9.30.pm. If you are between 13 and 21 and would be interested in enrolling in this project, come along to the pavilion on the 10th and find out what it is all about.

Booking is now open for the visit of the Cranbrook Town Band on Thursday October 11. The Band will be playing in the church from 8.00 pm and there will be soup and rolls and a bar open from 6.30pm. For tickets (£6.00) in advance contact Christopher Ventiroso at 01580 291204 or [email protected] . Tickets will also be available at the door on the night.

The Peasmarsh Village Society has asked me to include the following: We will be holding our AGM on Friday October 5 in the Memorial Hall, at 7.00pm. for business and 7.45pm for the AGM.

At last year’s AGM we decided that there was a need for new and hopefully younger blood on the committee with fresh ideas, to enable the PVS to move forward. To this end the present committee will stand down and those willing to offer themselves for re-election, together with other people from the general membership, maybe elected to form a new committee. If the meeting fails to elect a full committee with officers, then the PVS will fold. This would be a great pity because it does serve the interests of the Village. Can we remind you of some of our activities and achievements? :- Maintaining contact with the Police on matters of speeding and liaising with our PCSO to monitor anti-social behaviour etc. Monitoring planning applications and objecting to those considered undesirable for the Village.

Monitoring and liaising with the school Head and PCSO regarding safety and congestion in School Lane, at drop off and collecting times and more considerate parking by staff during the day. Supporting other Village organisations to achieve their goals.

Carrying out a yearly ‘Clean-up Day’ (together with the support of ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ who provide the tabards and sacks) in order to clear up the rubbish dropped in the lanes and footpaths so as to enhance the appearance of our Village. Cleaning out and cutting the undergrowth around our Village pond yearly. Creating a Village Directory of Businesses and Organisations which was delivered free to all properties within the Village. (The cost of this was shared between the PVS, the Peasmarsh Parish Council and the Church.) The grade 11 listing of the Rectory with English Heritage along with the help of others who had knowledge of its history. Membership of the CPRE (Campaign for the Protection of Rural England) whose publications alert us to wider issues affecting the countryside. We have joined our voices with others to prevent harmful use or development of the wider Countryside in Sussex.

Services this Sunday at Peasmarsh church will be Holy Eucharist at 10am and Evensong at 3.30pm.
