Peasmarsh village voice

Music lovers from Peasmarsh and the surrounding area who have enjoyed performances from talented young musicians at Peasmarsh Church in May in the past will be delighted to know that this year another outstanding group will be visiting and performing.

On Bank Holiday Monday (7th) the Celan Quartet will give a concert of works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Shostakovitch. Every one of these young string players is already an experienced performer and they are all winners of prestigious awards and prizes.

The concert starts at 6.30pm. There are still some tickets available (£12 and £8) and it might be possible to pay at the door, but to be sure of a seat, or if you would like to book for the excellent candlelit buffet supper which follows the performance contact Robin Thompson (01797 230356) or Jennifer Als (01797 230324 or [email protected] ).

Advance notice of the annual Plant Sale in Peasmarsh, organised by the local Liberal Democrats. This will take place at the Memorial Hall from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday May 12th. In addition to plants (with a good selection of geraniums and fuschias) there will be cakes for sale and refreshments available.

Peasmarsh residents, and (for the first time) those Rye Foreign residents living between Peasmarsh and Coldharbour Lane, will soon be getting their monthly Peasmarsh Periodical. This month’s will contain further details of plans to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and an invitation for children of 12 and under to a special tea-party, where, along with all young people of 18 and under, they can collect their special jubilee coin. Please make sure you fill in and return the RSVP slip. It will make it much easier for the organisers if they know how many they are catering for !

Thanks to all those people who have volunteered to help with the Rye 10 Road Race on May 27. More marshalls and other helpers (of all ages) are still needed to ensure runners’ safety and well being by managing road junctions and manning water stations on the route. Volunteers are also needed to help manage the car parking and handing out medals at the finish. To volunteer please contact either Martin or Cathy Burke on 01797 230999 or email [email protected] or David or Hilary on 01797 230205 or email [email protected].

I went along to the Peasmarsh Flying Start baby and toddler group last week with my Granddaughter - she had a lovely time and enjoyed playing with all the toys and activities on offer there. The group is held at the Peasmarsh Memorial Hall every Thursday morning (during term time) from 9.30am-11.30am and costs £2 per family, well worth a visit.
