Peasmarsh village voice

I received the following from Philip Piggott - ‘Philip and Sue would like to thank all who attended their Dad Charles Piggott’s funeral on Wednesday April 4. We would also like to thank the bell ringers, organist, vergers, Father Christopher, Rev D Bill Dolman and the undertakers at Ellis Bros for their time.’

I attended Charlie’s funeral last week; the church was full to bursting with friends, family and so many of us from the village there just weren’t enough seats. Which isn’t surprising given the man Charlie was. I’ve only lived in Peasmarsh for 14 years; I met Charlie not long after we moved in, he was always friendly and would be happy to stop for a chat. When he gave up writing this column I took it over with a great deal of apprehension because I knew there was no way I would be able to include the breadth of local knowledge and wildlife reports that people were used to (I was also a ‘newcomer!). In the early days I would sometimes ask his advice, he was always very supportive and gave me some tips, but mainly he told me to do it my way. I took that advice. I can’t imagine that there is anyone in Peasmarsh who didn’t know and respect him; he will be greatly missed.

Don’t forget the Peasmarsh quiz tomorrow (Saturday 14) 7.30pm at the Memorial hall, £5.50 entrance, teams of up to 8 members - come along and join the fun! Also not long now until the Diamond Jubilee Archive Exhibition, also at the hall - April 22. Entrance to the exhibition will be free and refreshments will be available all day.
