Tony Curd has been picked to carry the Olympic torch in the Bexhill area. He was nominated by UK Power Network, his employer, for his loyalty to them, his work for the British Legion and of course his work with the Oliver Curd Trust. Many congratulations to him and his family on this very special duty.

Many apologies to anyone who e-mailed me entries for this week’s Village Voice column – I have had terrible trouble with my email connection so have been unable to access my usual email account. I’m hoping this will resolve itself over the next few days so that I will be able to include anything missed next week!

I’m sure that most of you will have heard that Charlie Piggott died last week. His funeral will take place at Peasmarsh church at 2.30pm on April 4. More details to follow next week. Peasmarsh won’t be the same without him.

Peasmarsh is lucky to have quite extensive recreation grounds with a pavilion, playing field, children’s play space and skate park, all provided largely by the efforts (very often ‘hands on’) of local residents. Some of these facilities are now in urgent need of a large dose of TLC. If you care about the provisions for sports in our village and want to make sure they are still there for our children as they grow up please try to find time to spend a couple of hours this weekend with the working party which will be giving the pavilion a facelift. Bring along your paintbrushes and your ladders and anything else you think might be useful. As it is at the moment the pavilion is a disgrace. As it stands, it is not surprising that some of our young people have no respect for it. We want it, once again, to be something everyone in Peasmarsh can be proud of. See you there!

Another appeal for some younger mums and dads to join the Jubilee committee so that we have some voices on behalf of the pre-school children and the 5, 6, and 7 year olds. Next meeting is on Monday March 26 at the hall, 7.30pm.

Advance notice of the Annual Parish Assembly, to be held at the Memorial hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday April 25. A chance to inspect and discuss the finalised plans for the hall refurbishment, and have your say about the new activities planned for when it re-opens

The service this Sunday at Peasmarsh church will be Holy Eucharist at 3.30pm.
