Pedestrian killed on A27 at Crossbush is named

POLICE have named a 52-year-old pedestrian who died following a collision with a car on the A27 at Crossbush in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 27).

He was John Russell Gayfer, of Woodlands Road, East Grinstead.

Police and emergency services were called to the collision involving a blue Rover 75 car on the westbound carriageway at 1.30am. Mr Gayfer died from his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Rover, a 24-year-old man from Portslade, was treated for shock.

Inquiries into the cause of the accident are continuing and police have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have seen a man walking along the A27 in the Crossbush area, or a Rover 75, prior to the collision, to please contact them via the 101 number, quoting Operation Parham.
