Pensioner affected by smoke in Rustington bungalow blaze

An elderly man needed treatment by paramedics after being affected by smoke from a small fire in his bungalow at Rustington.

Firefighters were called to the semi-detached property at Fircroft Crescent when the smoke alarm went off just after 8pm yesterday (Monday, January 7).

A small fire in the kitchen involving cooking was out when they arrived, but the bungalow was lightly smoke-logged and the fire crew, from East Preston, led the elderly occupant outside, where they gave him oxygen, before handing him over to ambulance service paramedics.

The firefighters were on the scene for just over half an hour and used a high-pressure fan to clear the smoke away.
