Pensioner has £1,500 stolen from bank account in Chichester

Police have released CCTV images of two people they would like to speak to in connection with a suspected theft from a pensioner in Chichester.

An 87-year-old local woman withdrew cash from an ATM inside Barclays Bank in East Street, Chichester at around 11am on Wednesday, November 25.

She put the money in her handbag, but misplaced her purse which had her bank card inside, police said.

At 11:19am, a further £200 was taken from her account using a cashpoint outside the branch and then £1,300 was withdrawn at a counter at 11:20am.

The male suspect is described as white with short dark hair, about 6ft and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

The female suspect is described as white with dark, brown hair in a pony tail, 5’ft 6in, of slim build and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

PC James Bunch said: “A total of £1,500 was taken out of the victim’s bank account without her authorisation.

“We would like to speak with the man and woman shown in the images and anyone else who may have seen what happened that morning.”
