Sheila Alford, 75, of Littlehampton Road, Worthing, was making her daily visit to Durrington Cemetery, in Findon Road, on Saturday, when she was shocked to find two large pots of plants missing.

They had been taken from the grave of her nephew, Raymond, and brother, Ted, some time after 8pm on Friday.

A nearby section of border, maintained by Mrs Alford, had also been uprooted, and geraniums around a tree near her husband’s grave in another part of the cemetery had also been targeted.

She said: “I cried when I noticed and I have not slept this weekend, as I was worried what I was going to find when I came up again.”

“I could not believe it and I can’t understand why people would take from a grave.”
