On Tuesday, the Lancing and Sompting U3A held its annual exhibition of work at Lancing Parish Hall, in South Street, Lancing. More than 20 interest groups were represented on the day.

People were able to chat with group co-ordinators to learn more about the wide range of activities on offer. These included photography, card-making, living history, ancient history, walking, garden appreciation, bird-watching, sewing, painting, jazz, classical music and knitting and crochet.

The group’s publicity officer, Barry Upton, said there had been a great turn out for the event.

“We were very pleased with the displays and the amount of people coming to view them,” said Mr Upton.

There were a high number of enquiries made into the activities and many people joined U3A after viewing the exhibit, added Mr Upton.

A raffle was held with all prizes provided by members of the sewing group, including a handmade double bed size quilt.

“One of our existing members won the big prize and the raffle managed to raise a total of £125.”

All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust.

The U3A movement is a unique organisation which provides life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people.

The next monthly meeting is at Lancing Parish Hall on April 13. All are welcome to join.
