People evacuated after Hastings Old Town fire

Residents had to escape from a building in the Old Town early this morning (Friday, July 8) following a fire.

Four fire engines from Hastings and Bexhill attended the scene just after 3.20am.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were mobilised to the Old Town in Hastings after smoke was reported emitting from a building.

“All residents had safely evacuated the building and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

“A Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan was used to blow smoke from the building.”
