People needed for snow duty

RYE Town Council has sent out an appeal for people to join its snow response team this winter.

Rye councillor’s lead the way during heavy snow falls earlier this year and took to the streets with shovels to clear footways on the town centre and at Tilling Green estate,

They also set up a working party of councillors to draw up an action plan to help the town and its residents cope in a period of freezing weather.

But they say more help is needed if Rye is to stay on its feet during a snowfall.

Rye Town Clerk Richard Farhall said: “The Town Council is seeking members of the public to join its Snow Response Team.

“ You will be asked to clear snow and spread salt within an allocated area of the town.

“The necessary equipment and guidance will be provided. If you interested and have a reasonable level of fitness please ring me on 01797 223902 or email [email protected].

Meanwhile after a wash-out summer weather experts are warning people in the county to brace themselves for more heavy rain and potential flooding this autumn.

The county’s groundwater levels are exceptionally high in some areas after heavy rainfall over the past six months and the Met Office and Environment Agency has said that even light showers could spark floods in the coming months.
