People power victory in bail hostel battle

PEOPLE power scored a major victory in Arundel when controversial plans for a half-way house for convicted criminals and those remanded on bail were withdrawn at the last minute.

The proposal received huge public opposition with more than 200 residents packing into a public meeting at the town's football club on Friday evening.

Prisoners or suspects on bail had been due to move into 15 Howard Road this week but ClearSprings Management Ltd decided to abandon its plans and terminate the lease.

Karen Walker , who would have been living next door to the property, said she was absolutely delighted with the decision.
