People rescued from fires

TWO people were rescued from their burning flats in the early hours of Friday morning.

More than 20 firefighters from The Ridge and Bohemia spent an hour and a half tackling a blaze in a ground floor flat in London Road at 3.30am.

Residents of the other flats in the three storey terraced building managed to get outside before the fire engines arrived.

The occupant of the ground floor flat, a man in his 20s, was trapped in the lower ground floor bedroom until firefighters led him to safety. An ambulance attended but no one required medical treatment.

The cause is still being investigated.

At about 5am crews from the Ridge and Bohemia were called to another fire in a flat above the One Stop Shop in Bodiam Drive.

The blaze, which started in the kitchen, set off the shop's fire alarms and they alerted the fire brigade.

A man was led to safety from the smoke-logged flat in the two storey building but he was not hurt.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and hoses to quickly contain the fire.

On Friday evening two men were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a cooker caught fire in their seafront flat.

Firefighters attended the smoke-logged, fifth floor flat in Marina at 7.05pm.

The two occupants had managed to reach their balcony and were led to safety by firefighters.
