People urged not to bin Christmas trees

PEOPLE are being urged not to throw away their Christmas trees when the festive season comes to an end.

From Friday, January 5, Adur residents will be able to recycle their trees in special compounds, which will be set up in Buckingham Park, Shoreham, Southwick Leisure Centre, in Old Barn Way, and at Lancing Leisure Centre, in Manor Road.

Trees will be shredded and then used as mulch in Adur's parks and gardens.

Used wrapping paper and Christmas cards can be put in Adur council's blue recycling boxes for collection.

The council is also urging people to take unwanted clothes and gifts to charity shops instead of throwing them away.

Community and leisure services chairman Keith Dollemore said: "Most people have lots of rubbish this time of year, so the more we can recycle the better."
