“I lost two brothers to cystic fibrosis by the time I was 14.

“I always think there is always someone worse off than me who needs help.”

However, there is no end in sight for Kevin’s charity challenges as he prepares for a 100km run from London to Brighton in May in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Funds raised by Kevin have benefited several charities including Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and RISE, a Sussex charity supporting people affected by domestic abuse.

Kevin’s colleagues at the waste and recycling centre in Robinson Road, Newhaven, are always supportive of his charity challenges.

“My wonderful work colleagues have contributed £4,000 out of the £32,000 – which is amazing from a relatively small workforce of around 80 people,” Kevin said.

“They always put their hands in their pockets whenever I ask for sponsorship.”

His colleagues have also helped him to host several Macmillan coffee mornings, raising hundreds of pounds for the cancer charity.

Councillor Julie Carr, cabinet member for recycling, waste and open spaces at Lewes District Council, said: “At the council, we are all very proud of Kevin and his dedication to helping good causes. He is a true charity champion.”
