Age UK Brighton & Hove working to get older people connected

On International Day of Older Persons, the charity helped people to get online and use a range of computer skills.

Age UK Brighton and Hove held a free IT drop-in on October 1.

The regular drop-ins hope to get more people connected and teach them how to access the benefits of using the internet.

People aged 50 and over can go to the sessions to learn essential computer and internet skills including how to solve computer issues, email, online shopping, and cyber safety.

Helen Rice, chief executive at Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove said: “Some older people may never have learned how to use the internet and might find it daunting, but the benefits are vast.

“Keeping in touch with friends and family more easily, shopping online, and managing money through internet banking are just a few reasons to give it a try. “The sessions are really informal and will go at a pace you’re comfortable with. Please come along if you’re interested. You might find a whole new world at your fingertips!”

Drop-ins run every Monday to Thursday from 10am – 1pm at the Age UK Brighton & Hove centre, 29 – 31 Prestonville Road, BN1 3TJ.

Three dedicated volunteers run the centre, giving expert advice to attendees.
