Animal charities benefit from Findon Valley Fun Dog Show fundraising

Supporters of the Findon Valley Fun Dog Show beat last year's total and raised nearly £2,000 for charity despite the hot weather meaning the event had to be postponed.

Dog warden Russ Akehurst and judge Pat Eves were able to proudly present a cheque for £1,500 to Jan Meredith of Sussex Pet Rescue from these funds.

This money will be spent on supporting dogs in foster care and on vulnerable dogs whose owners cannot provide adequate care. Organisers of the dog show hope the contribution will help improve the quality of the lives of many animals.

Paws Animal Sanctuary in The Oval in Findon also received £400 towards its work with animals.

The show was originally due to take place on July 8, but was cancelled for the safety of the pets due to the hot weather.

Dog lovers finally gathered together on August 26, with 80 dogs turning up with their owners to enjoy the many stalls and competitions.

Best in show on the day was Daisy, a black phantom golden doodle owned by Karen Keen. The reserve best in show was German shepherd Winnie owned by Zoe and Jez Viel.

Last year, £1,600 was the final total raised but the organisers managed to build on that this year with a total of £1,916 for the two charities from the successful show.
