The council, working with police and the director of Public Health for East Sussex, said the event would be stopped due to health and safety concerns ‘compounded this year by the risk of spreading Covid-19’.

A spokesman said the council, and joint partners, will continue to monitor the beach at Camber Sands this weekend.

Rother District Council said: “We are aware of an event being planned for this Sunday at Camber Sands and are in contact with the event organiser. We have made it clear that due to the location and the nature of the beach, Rother District Council, working in partnership with the police and the Director of Public Health for East Sussex, do not allow events of any kind, under any circumstances, to be held on the beach or on public land within the vicinity of the beach.

“This is mainly due to health and safety concerns but compounded this year by the risk of spreading COVID 19. The beach can become very busy on hot sunny days, making it more difficult to support our visitors safety both on the sand and in the water. Any event simply adds to this. As usual we will be working with our partners over the weekend to monitor the beach at Camber Sands.”
