Army Cadets in Hastings and Rother take part in sleepout to help homeless veterans

Cadets from the A Company Sussex Army Cadet Force, smashed their own previous record of £1,000 to raise £4,480 in the Royal British Legion’s Great Tommy Sleepout fund raiser.

A total of 47 Cadets and 19 adults slept rough in their back gardens and unlikely places within their homes to highlight the serious plight that over 6,000 veterans are currently homeless and sleeping rough on the streets of the UK.

They also cooked an evening meal and breakfast as part of the challenge.

Steve Sherry, from the Royal British Legion, said: “Their fundraising is nothing short of phenomenal. They are a testament to Cadets Forces everywhere.

“Funds they raised will be of direct benefit to the military veterans we support. We cannot thank them enough.”

Training Officer Captain Luke Redfearn added: “We’re proud to have raised awareness and funds for a charity that aligns so closely to our own ethos – setting up people with the skills they need for life-long success.”
