Former Observer columnist Duncan Barkes, who has spent the last ten years broadcasting from London on LBC radio, BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Five Live, is returning to local broadcasting to present a new Sunday evening show on V2 Radio.

Duncan previously worked for Spirit FM for eight years from 2000, and also worked on and managed radio stations in Eastbourne and Hastings during this time.

He said: “I am a West Sussex lad born and bred and I can’t wait to return to broadcasting to Sussex from Sussex every Sunday evening.

“V2 Radio is doing things differently by providing proper local radio for the patch at a time when many other stations are broadcasting from outside the area.

“In many ways I am returning to my roots and look forward to building a vibrant Sunday evening radio community.”

Duncan’s show will air between 7pm and 10pm every Sunday, from February 14, and feature local people requesting their favourite songs as well as other chat and features.

V2 Radio launched last month with many former presenters from Spirit FM, as well as a commitment to bring back ‘proper local radio’ to the area and donate ten per cent of station earnings to local causes through a community chest initiative.

In order for us to continue to provide high quality and trusted local news, I am asking you to please purchase a copy of our newspapers.

With the coronavirus lockdown having a major impact on many of our local valued advertisers - and consequently the advertising that we receive - we are more reliant than ever on you helping us to provide you with news and information by buying a copy of our newspapers.

Our journalists are highly trained and our content is independently regulated by IPSO to some of the most rigorous standards in the world. But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis.
